Bangkit 2022 — The Exciting Learning Journey

Hello, my name is Muhammad Noor ‘Adn Assa’id. you can call me Noor or Aden. I’m from State Islamic Institute of Kudus (IAIN Kudus), majoring in Dakwah Management. I am a non-it educational background formal student before.
When this article was written, I was a Cloud Computing cohort at Bangkit Academy 2022. This article was written to reflect on me my #BangkitExperience in Bangkit 2022, and I hope it will be useful for others.
Bangkit is a Google-led academy designed to produce high-caliber, technical talent for world-class, Indonesian technology companies and startups. This year, Bangkit is offered as an approved Kampus Merdeka program supported by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (MOECRT) of the Republic of Indonesia.
Please note that this article was written based on my own experience and perspective during participating the program.
# Intro
I’m a person that loves to learn and explore something new, especially in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, & Mathematics) field. I have tried to join Bootcamps and classes in that field, whether it was a free or paid version. Such as Progate x Orang Siber Bootcamp, IDCamp (Indosat Oreedoo Digital Camp), IT Career Preparation by Alterra Academy, etc.
I also enrolled in many classes in Dicoding Academy, BuildWith Angga, Udemy, Udacity, Microsoft Learn, etc. I’m also excited to follow many events, just like Baparekraf Developer Day (BDD), Microsoft Dev//Verse, Dicoding Events, etc. I also have joined a Hackathon competition event.
# How It Started
When I was just scrolling on social media platforms, I found information about Bangkit 2021. Then I will Google it as soon as possible. I checked the official website, read through the web pages, and gathered as much information about the program. I am very excited and interested to apply to that program.
But, qodarullah (unfortunately), I am unable to apply because I am still not eligible to join this program. This program has minimum standard qualifications to join, one of them is the applicants at least must finish 5 semesters of study. That time is when I was still in the 3rd semester on my campus. So, I must be patient and try to forget that. :(
The time must go on, and the 2 semesters has been passed. Now I’m in the 5th semester, and I intended to join the program, especially in the Cloud Computing learning path. Then, I encourage myself to register, bismillah. I do all the things that need to register in application processes, following procedures, and with care. I do not forget to discuss this with my parents and do a prayer.
As a Muslim, I pray and ask Allah that if this program is beneficial to me and good for me, please let me in, help me in all duties, and bless me. Otherwise, if this program is not good for me, please keep me away from it. :)
After many steps of the application process, the announcement day has come. I’m feeling nervous about the result. And, qodarullah, I’m on the waiting list due to the higher applicant volume. It’s okay, just be patient and wait for the final result, and not forget to do the prayer of course.
# Getting Started to Bangkit
On Friday, 28 January 2022, I got an email informed that I’m accepted into Bangkit 2022. Alhamdulillah!. I’m feeling grateful to hear that good news. Over 63K+ applicants, there are around 3K that accepted. For me, joining Bangkit is “Amanah”, an obligation that needs to fight for, and needs a commitment to finish till the end. Then ASAP, I complete all the things about the registration. My prayer has been accepted, and I hope this is a good beginning to start the journey.
Then, after a few days, I got info about matriculation class, onboarding, technical meeting, English pre-test, etc. I read it carefully and start doing what needs to do. I have some issues with the administration actually, but alhamdulillah, it has already been solved.
Then I got credentials such as a Letter of Acceptance, Bangkit email, Bangkit ID, etc. All further information, announcement, etc will be sent to the Bangkit email (xxxxxx@bangkit.academy).
# Learning Models & Documentation
The class started to begin. There a two main learning models, synchronous and asynchronous learning. First, asynchronous learning means the students will be able to study as they want to study and not depend on others. For example, the students will be given a class token and learning credits. The platform used is Dicoding, Coursera, and Qwiklabs (Google Cloud Skill Boost).
Second, synchronous learning means the students must be stand-in online at the same time. This is usually called an ILT (Instructor-Led Training) study: tech, soft skills, and English. All students must be on-cam, and the materials will be explained in English.
# A Message
This may be hard in the beginning, but insyaAllah it will be easy if we keep trying and keep praying. There is a time that you feel down like nobody care, feels inferior, or does not that about your expectations, but remember, we need to fight. Go back to the past and tell yourself why you join this program.
Especially for my fellow Muslims, we must realize that we are weak. We need a backed, we need help, we need anesthesia to face this hard time, we must go to the one that has control of ourselves. And did you know who is? He is Allah. Go and tell all your problems, sigh, etc to Allah. Do a night prayer, do a charity, do good deeds, and do many things that you can do.
